Austin Butler won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama at the 2023 Golden Globes for his portrayal of The King in The King elvis.
Social media was abuzz when the actor took the stage to deliver his acceptance speech. Many viewers noted that Butler’s voice, although atypical, still sounded like Elvis Presley.
While meeting with reporters backstage at the Globes, Butler was asked about the lingering Presley accent.
“Quiet?” He said before adding: “I don’t think I sound like him anymore, but I guess I should because I hear it a lot.”
Butler continued, “I often compare it to someone living in another country for a long time, and I had three years where that was my only focus in life, so I’m sure it’s just part of me DNA, which always connects. connects. this way.” See Butler’s reaction in the video posted above.
Housed as Butler Saturday night live in December 2022, he delivered his “Elvis-y voice” during the opening monologue. The Carrie Diaries Alum joked that he’s “always sounded like that” and made a modified clip of him with a high-pitched voice.
Back at the Golden Globes, when Butler took the stage, his voice sounded like Presley’s signature accent. The actor himself thanked The King, saying: “You were an icon and a rebel and I love you so much. You will be remembered and I will never forget it.”
Butler also thanked Presley’s wife, Priscilla Presley, and daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, for opening their home to him during the trial.
