It’s hard to believe that masterpieces like “Get Out” or “Eraserhead” are the first films as directors for David Lynch or Jordan Peele. But it is true, and even more interesting, when you consider that some of them could barely direct, yet they have become some of the most important filmmakers in the history of modern cinema.

As we have already mentioned, ‘Get Out’ was the first story of Jordan Peele, one of the yellow films that marked the debut of a great director in the genus. Daniel Kaluuya brings to life a young man who is about to meet his girlfriend’s parents for the first time and who, when he least realizes it, gets involved in a dark therapy session in which they only want to bring out the best qualities in him. 10 Cloverfield Ave

One of Best Directorial Debut in a Mystery Film Dan Trachtenberg, who recently released ‘Prey’, has it, with ’10 Cloverfield Lane’. This is the second installment in the saga, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr., which follows a woman who has been in a car accident, and is now locked up with two men as they try to survive a chemical attack. It’s hard to believe that “Eraserhead” was the debut of one of the great directors of our time as is David Lynch. A story of such mastery that it would take any other to make, Lynch showed us with his story of a young man who suffered from terrible nightmares from an early age, from which he freed himself through his imagination. One day, at a family dinner, he realizes that he is the father of a strange fetus.

In a mix of mystery and science fiction, in 2009 Duncan Jones released ‘Moon’, a film starring Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey, in which we meet Sam Bell, the only remaining crew member in a facility on the moon. Just three weeks after returning to Earth after three long years, he has an accident where he realizes it’s not just him.

Donnie Darko

Richard Kelly has proven that it doesn’t take a long career to pull off a complex mystery full of symbolism with ‘Donnie Darko’. Starring Jake and Maggie Gylenhaal, alongside Jena Malone, Drew Barrymore, and more, the story follows a sleepy young man who narrowly survives an accident and now has visions of a rabbit that spells the end of his world. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

nightcrawler

Though his mouth filled soon after his debut, Dan Gilroy had a spectacular start to his career with ‘Nightcrawler’. Jake Gyllenhaal appears again opposite Riz Ahmed in a story about a young man who is desperate for a job and discovers his talent in tabloid journalism which gives him an opportunity in television. Available on HBO Max.
