One of the biggest surprises of the 2022 film year was the international success of RRRepic Telugu action drama from the director HH Rajamouli. A fictional/mythological story of friendship between Alluri Sitarama Raju Y Komaram Bheemreal-life revolutionaries who oppose British rule, RRR features “arguably one of the best musical dance sequences in cinema,” according to Slash Film. It’s the dance number with Raju (Ram Charan) and Bhem (NT Rama Rao Jr.) which showcases British aristocracy along with the catchy song “Naatu Naatu”.
The song itself is a worm, but what helped the song go viral is the dance, choreographed by prem rakshit. At one point, the stars performed a hook step and fans have since taken to TikTok in hopes of recreating the steps. BJ ColangeloThe scene dissection for Slash Film covers the song’s cultural ties and how the hook sequence in “Naatu Naatu” was “designed to make us want to dance, and it worked brilliantly.”
That brilliance could pay off big during the 80th Golden Globes. The song goes to the awards on Jan. 10, nominated for Best Song and can beat out names like Taylor Swift, Rihanna Tems, Lady GagaY Guillermo del Toro. Before it’s all over, here’s a crash course in music at the heart of RRR.

Who sings “Naatu Naatu”?
“Naatu Naatu” was composed by MM Keeravani, and resources with letters of chandrabosa, a prolific writer who wrote lyrics for more than 3500 songs used in Telugu films.
(Telugu is the language spoken primarily in southeast India and is the official language of the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is the native language of over 83 million people. As of 2021, Telugu cinema, or Tollywood, is the largest film industry in India.)
“A few songs over the years have garnered attention, but this was the first to receive this kind of international response,” said Keeravani. the casing. This response was not expected. …There is a lot of energy flowing and happening. The lyrics describe different types of energy and how the energy flows, and then you have the high energy beats. … It was an impressive number, but then it increased. It’s not just a song, it’s an experience.”
While the actors sing the song RRR, it is not the voices of Rao or Charan that the audience hears. “Naatu Naatu” is performed by playback singers (ghost singers whose singing is pre-recorded for movies) Rahul Sipligunj Y Kaala Bhairava.
