Sony’s Tom Hanks Starring A man named Otto made $4.2M in a quick second frame as it moved from four in NY and LA to 637 locations nationwide. Heavy word of mouth has driven moviegoers to particularly strong locales and momentum looks good as adult drama/comedy enters major expansion next week ahead of bank holiday weekend. This Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Otto made $1.5M on Friday, $1.7M on Saturday and likely $1M on Sunday with a strong average of $6.6k per screen and $4.28M total dollars. Audience reaction drove the jump – the film has an audience rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, versus 68% from critics. it’s no 4 at the local box office.

The remake of the Swedish film, based on a New York Times bestseller, kicked off the first phase of a three-phase rollout in an exclusive run to four theaters in LA and NY last weekend, earning $60,000, an average of $15,000 per canvas equates to the three-day New Year’s weekend and $75,000 or $18.7,000 PSA over the four days.
