Few genres have as many aspects as horror, comedy combined with fear, or even very dense things like slasher or gore. However, this time it’s time to review some of the best gothic horror movies, which awakened the premiere of ‘The Academy Crimes’ on Netflix, with several titles that you can watch on Netflix.
As we have already said, ‘The Pale Blue Eye’ has arrived on Netflix, and just like nothing has become one of the best gothic horror movies of the last years. And not because there aren’t many releases of this style, but because the setting directed by Scott Cooper, together with the incredible interpretation of Christian Bale, and finally a story that recalls the best moments of Edgar Allan Poe, is an indisputable option to open the prompt.
The legend of the headless horseman
But if there is one gothic horror movie streaming which comes to mind only seeing the genre i.e. ‘The Legend of the Headless Horseman’, by Tim Burton. Starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci, the story is set in colonial times where the police uncover a series of crimes in which the corpses are all beheaded. Available in Star+ and Claro.
The Witch
Next we have one of best gothic horror movies ever, ‘The Witch’, directed by Robert Eggers, and starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Harvey Schrimshaw and Kate Dickie. The story is set in 1630, when a family is banished to a land near a forest, where a demonic entity is said to exist. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

dracula
Francis Ford Coppola gave one of the most terrifying visions of the most famous vampire with ‘Dracula, by Bram Stoker’, a horror and fantasy film released in 1992. It is the adaptation of the most important gothic horror novel in literature, starring Gary Oldman , Winona Ruyder, Anthony Hopkins, Keany Reeves, Richard Grand, among others. Available on HBO Max.
Van Helsing
While it also has an action-adventure twist, Stephen Sommers’ “Van Helsing,” starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale, is one of the best uses of gothic imagery in horror. The story follows a monster hunter who joins forces with a woman to take on Dracula and some other creatures they encounter. Available on Netflix.
the scarlet summit
Finally, Guillermo del Toro, master of gothic horror, gave his best performance with ‘Crimson Peak’, starring Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain. The story takes place in the 19th century, when a young woman who can speak with the dead discovers that her husband and sister harbor a terrible secret. Available on HBO Max.
