Allison Williams is a robotics engineer who designs a smart doll for her niece, who has just been orphaned. The doll is called M3gan and her job is to protect the little girl from any physical or emotional harm, but she will take her job a little too seriously. This is the premise of ‘M3GAN’, which is released today in the cinemas of our country and is already destined to be one of the great horror titles. The film has gained a huge fan following with the release of the trailer alone, causing a stir on the internet, where memes proliferate.

With this premonitory success, it doesn’t seem excessive to talk about it a possible sequel. However, producer James Wan, who co-wrote the script with Akela Cooper, is very cautious. “I am very superstitious”supports Want to Cinema Blend. “I don’t like to talk about sequels when the first movie isn’t even out”.
Wan was behind the production of the ‘Saw’ saga, as well as films such as ‘Insidious Chapter 3’, ‘Warren File: The Enfield Case’, ‘Annabelle’ or ‘La Llorona’. In addition, he has also worked as a screenwriter and director. Therefore, we can say that he knows the horror industry inside out. Wan says he always thinks big in his films and ‘M3GAN’ is no exception. “I don’t just think about that particular story, I think about the wider world“, He says. “That way, if we’re lucky enough to tell other stories, we can reach out to that bigger world”.
What we don’t see is worse
Before the final cut, “M3GAN” fell just short of the 12+ rating, so director Gerard Johnson decided to reshoot some scenes to fit it. According to the Slash Film account, this left out scenes where M3gan chased people on all fours, tried to rip someone’s ear off, and used everything in his power to get rid of anything in his way. Interestingly, these cuts to make the movie more accessible made it even more terrifying.
“What really excited me is that when we re-shot those scenes, they were more effective”Johnstone tells Games Radar. One scene in particular, in which the doll confronts the neighbor’s dog, takes place completely off-camera, leaving the viewer with an idea of what is happening. Johnstone laughs at the recollection: “I remember turning to look at my sound designer after I redid it and just saying, ‘Holy shit, that’s worse'”. After all, what we don’t see is much scarier than what we see.
‘M3GAN’ can be seen only in theatres from 4 January
