Before Brendan Fraser got the role in Darren Aronofskyfilm adaptation of The whaleanother star was originally supposed to star in the film… James Corden.

According to Deadline, Corden was originally set to play the role of stylist and director Tom Ford had to develop the film. He said, “I was going to play that part and Tom Ford was going to direct.”

Corden explained that the reason this version of the film ultimately didn’t get made was because Ford wanted more complete control of the project. Corden also says he thinks he was too young to do him justice.

The actor went on to say so George Clooney he even stepped in to develop the film at one point, but only wanted to make the film if they cast a real unknown 600-pound actor to play the lead. When that got too complicated, Clooney never fully committed.

It’s hard to imagine Corden in the lead role of The Whale, and I’m not sure he would have been able to pull it off the way Brendan Fraser does. After seeing Fraser, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role and he will now be nominated for all the Best Actor awards during awards season. He gave such a powerful performance!

The film is based on Samuel D. CacciatoreThe critically acclaimed 2012 play of the same name. It tells the story of a lonely English teacher who suffers from severe obesity. The six hundred pound recluse hides away from the world and slowly eats himself to death. He is given one last chance at redemption as he attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter.

The film is also the protagonist Stranger things star Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, Samantha Morton (The walking dead) and Ty Simkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3).
