Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse it was an animated film unlike anything we had ever seen before. Not only did it tell a great and fresh story, but the visual style was incredibly insane! We now have two sequels on the way and the creative team is taking their innovative approach to a new level.

Marvel’s Spider Man 2 news may be imminent – here’s why
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse they have a high bar to reach, fan expectations are sky high, and producers can feel the weight of those expectations. During a recent interview with The Wrap, co-writer and producer Chris Miller opened up about the pressure they’re feeling, saying:
“There’s a lot of pressure on these films because you want the film to convey a compelling story and an emotional journey. You also want it to be all the things people hope for, but then you also need it to be something people didn’t even know they wanted.
And that’s why I’m excited about these sequels! I’m thrilled with the awesomeness surprise that awaits! The things I didn’t even know I wanted! One of the things they’re doing to up the ante is include 240 characters, with a story that will span across six different universes. Producer and co-writer Phil Lord continued, “It’s definitely crazier. We ended up making some people nervous. I feel like we’ve done our job.”
I love that they are making people nervous with these upcoming movies! Miller added:
“The whole idea of these movies is that we’re showing you something you’ve never seen before. And if we just made a funny, gentle story that feels like the first movie, I think that would be a little disappointing. You want to feel like you’re seeing images you’ve never seen before. Doing all of these things and doing them in an engaging and satisfying way is a big challenge, but it’s also part of why we do these things. That’s the goal, just to make you laugh and cry and feel something you’ve never felt before.
The film follows Miles Morales as the friendly Brooklyn neighborhood Spider-Man, “immersed in the multiverse where he joins forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-folk to take on a villain more powerful than anything they’ve ever encountered.” .
After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, “the friendly Brooklyn neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he meets a team of Spider-People charged with protecting his very existence. But when the heroes clash over how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
The cast includes Shameik Moore like miles; Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099; Hailee Steinfeld like Gwen, Brian Tiree Henry as Miles’ father, Jefferson Davis; Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mom, Rio Morales; Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman; Jorma Taccone as Vulture; Rachel Dratch; Shea Whigham; Greta Lee;Jason Schwartzmann like Stain; and Daniel Kaluya as Hobart “Hobie” Brown aka Spider-Punk.
The film is directed and produced by Justin K Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santosand Kemp Powers. Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Christine Steinberg they are also producing. Lord and Miller will also be credited as screenwriters on the film, along with David Callaham.
I’ve already watched 15 minutes of the movie which was pretty awesome! You can watch us talk about it here. The film will be released on June 2, 2023! There is also a third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versealready dated March 29, 2024. Check out the recent trailer for the film here.
