The first thing Luna makes very clear is that Cassian is never a perfect hero, saying, “I mean, weaknesses show even in A rogue one. It never ends.” He goes on to talk about how Cassian will be different in the upcoming second season saying:
“[I] think what happens even after prison and in the next episodes is that he really understands what he’s fighting against. He understands the need [for] a revolution because he understands what oppression basically means and how little freedom he has and how unfair the world he lives in is. But he still has a lot to learn in terms of teamwork.”
The character still has a lot to learn now that he’s part of the rebellion and still has a long way to go before becoming the person we meet A rogue one.
“I think in Season 1 we see him trying to survive and that he’s not necessarily being a part of something. He’s reacting to that. But now, yeah, he has to learn a lot from Luthen and from others, from other experiences, other events to be that person.” that we meet in Rogue One”.
Andor showrunner and creator Tony Gilroy previously talked about what it means for Cassian to join the rebel fold:
“His loyalty to the Rebellion – which means many different things to many different people – his loyalty and his commitment to it will no longer be questioned. It’s a blood oath that he took in the end. So that question is over. But becoming a leader… What do you do with that?
Gilroy went on to say that the upcoming second season will follow Cassian’s evolution as a rebel leader as the Alliance begins to come together:
“How are all these disparate factions going to try to learn to play together and transform into Yavin? [There will be] all the betrayal with that, all the manipulation of that by the Empire, the spy game, the war games, the personal stuff, while we’re telling a heartbreaking story, a great adventure. But it will be about using [Cassian’s] leadership and negotiating its way through the minefield of a revolution it is trying to bring together.”
Andor Season 2 is currently in production and is expected to premiere in 2024.
