It’s no secret that viewers binged on Netflix over the holiday weekend.
Glass Onion: A Mystery of Blades topped Netflix’s English-language film chart for the week of December 19-25, after debuting on the streamer two days before Christmas. Rian Johnson’s comedy sequel was watched for 82.1 million hours over those two days, which Netflix says translates to about 35 million households.
by Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio dropped to #3, so The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari took second place with 25.1 million hours. The viewers were definitely in the spirit of Christmas, as the list was supplemented with mainly Christmas films How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Bad Mother’s Christmas and Fall in love with Christmas.
On the TV side of things, Emily in Paris Season 3 premiered on December 21st and was watched for 117.6 million hours, placing it at #2 on the US English language chart. The third installment reached the top 10 in 93 countries. Season 1 also made it back into the top 10 last week with 11.5 million viewer hours as audiences prepare for the final season.
Not surprisingly, Wednesday remains at number 1 with a further 118.5 million hours watched – topping the English-language TV chart for its fifth week. The Royal Documentary Harry and Megan was eliminated from #2 in season 1 the recruitwith approximately 95.6 million viewing hours. The Witcher: Origin of the Blood also debuted this week, though it only managed to peak at number 7 on the list with 15.9 million hours of viewing.
Despite some bumps in the road, Netflix has had a record year in terms of content. Five of the streamer’s most popular English-language series debuted this year: stranger things 4, Wednesday Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer, Bridgeton S2 and Anna found out. The first three have now all been watched over 1 billion hours.
Rounding up the top 10 English language series of the year Ozark: Season 4, The Watcher: Season 1, The Sandman: Season 1, The Umbrella Academy: Season 3and Virgin River: Season 4.
The gray man took first place on the 2022 English-language film list, followed by The Adam Project on number 2 and purple hearts in third place. These are also three of the streamer’s most popular English-language films of all time.
