The Roman Empire was known for being quite brutal and conquering much of the known world. In 2023, writer Frederick Kennedy and artist Nick Marinkovich will take readers on a journey to the Roman Empire with Dead Romans. This historical fiction comic will be a six-issue miniseries with the first issue due out in March. You can check out some preview pages below, and I already love the art!
In Dead Romans, lush, beautiful illustrations bring to life a brutal tale of love and war from the birth of the Roman Empire. the Empire massacring its people. He wants to make the woman he loves, Honoria, a queen, a fellow slave to him. Now, fifty thousand Romans will die to give her a throne she never asked for…or wanted.
Speaking about the book, Kennedy shared:
I was nervous about this book, because it really is a love story at heart. With the wrong artist that aspect could get lost in the mud and violence. But Nick really got the tone and brought that emotion to life. It’s a brutal story, told in some of the most beautiful panels he’s ever seen. I am VERY proud (and lucky) to have been a part of this team.
Marinkovich added:
This is not a history lesson. It’s therapy, the kind that reminded me why I was a fan before I even picked up a paintbrush, and Fred is a time traveler. He is taking us back in time and immersing us in the raw scars of battle that resulted. It’s a journey to be on board, and I’m just trying to keep up…
