Stranger Things is reportedly getting an anime series set in Tokyo

Stranger things is one of the most popular shows on Netflix and the flagship series will conclude with its fifth season. There are plans to keep the franchise alive, however, with spinoff projects. Details of those spin-offs that are in development have yet to be revealed, but a new report has surfaced on What’s on Netflix that says one of these projects is an anime series.

They say the anime series is titled Stranger Things Tokyo and has been in development for “quite a long time.” The first rumors of this show’s existence came in early 2021, but there hasn’t been an official announcement yet.

There is a plot that has been leaked, however, and it reads: “An encounter with the Upside Down evolves into a grand adventure for video game-loving twin brothers living in the suburbs of 1980s Tokyo.”

An anime series set in the 80s for this franchise would be pretty cool and the thought of a story set in Tokyo is great. To give you a little taste of what a Stranger Things anime could be like, you can check out a fun fan-made video that was created here.

The Duffer Bros., the creators of Stranger things have teased a spin-off in the past, saying, “He’s not following… I’ve been reading these rumors that there’s going to be an Eleven spin-off, that there’s going to be a Steve and Dustin spin-off, or that it’s a other number. It’s not interesting to me why we did all this. We spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of this. So it’s very different.”

They went on to say that the spin-off will be “1000% different” than the flagship series. So what will be the connective tissue for the spinoff? They say it’s the “narrative sensibility”. The project would be a “story that connects to the world of Stranger Things, but it’s really more about how we’re telling that story.”
