It’s that time of year again! Time for hot cocoa, ugly sweaters and, of course, Christmas movies. This year, let’s shake things up and watch some a little more unconventional Christmas movies. Die Hard (1988) – Bruce Willis plays John McClane, a cop who finds himself fighting for survival against a group of terrorists who have taken control of a high-rise office building on Christmas Eve. With its intense action and lines from Bruce Willis, Die Hard it’s one of the best Christmas movies ever made, and for some reason, people keep debating whether or not it’s a Christmas movie.

New York City cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his ex-wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and two daughters on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a party at the headquarters of the Japanese-owned company he works for. But the celebrations are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive skyscraper and all those who live there. Very soon McClane realizes that there is no one to rescue the hostages but him.

Gremlins (1984) – This classic horror-comedy follows a young man who receives a strange creature as a gift, only to see it multiply into a horde of mischievous monsters terrorizing a small town on Christmas Eve. It’s a great choice for those who want to add some darkness to their holiday viewing. I loved watching this movie as a kid and loved watching it every year at Christmas!

A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one in a Chinatown store. The shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the “mogwai”, but he sells it to her with the caveat never to expose it to bright light, water, or feed it after midnight. All of this happens and the result is a gang of gremlins who decide to tear the city apart on Christmas Eve.

Kisses Kisses Bang Bang (2005) – This neo-noir black comedy from director Shane Black follows a thief who, after stumbling upon an audition, is cast as an extra in a film being shot in Los Angeles. I also just have to point out that I loved Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in this movie!

Davis is badass in this movie and shortly after her release I met her at the Price Club and got her autograph. I still have it!
