The highly anticipated new film by the director Makoto Shinkai, Suzumewill arrive in theaters in April 2023. Crunchyroll, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Wild Bunch International and Eurozoom, has announced that it will arrive in theaters worldwide (excluding Asia) starting April 12, 2023. “Suzume” is a coming-of-age story for the 17-year-old protagonist, Suzume, set in various disaster-stricken locations across Japan, where she has to close the doors causing devastation.
Suzume’s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwestern Japan) when she meets a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.” What Suzume finds is a single weathered door that stands amidst the ruins as if protected from whatever catastrophe strikes. Seemingly drawn to his power, Suzume reaches for the handle… Gates begin to open one after another across Japan, wreaking havoc on anyone nearby. Suzume must close these portals to avoid further disasters.
