The 78th Emmy Awards ceremony takes place on Monday, September 14, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, honoring the biggest names in television and streaming for the year.
The drama series "The Pitt" leads this year's field with 25 nominations, making it the frontrunner in the drama categories. The medical drama, which streams on HBO Max, has emerged as one of the most talked-about new shows of the television season.
Hacks sets a comedy record
Close behind is "Hacks," whose final season earned 24 nominations, a record for a comedy series in a single year. The show, which follows a veteran stand-up comedian, will compete for Best Comedy Series against "Abbott Elementary," "The Bear," "Only Murders in the Building," "Shrinking," "Nobody Wants This," "Margo's Got Money Troubles" and "Widow's Bay."
To shorten the length of the live broadcast, the Television Academy of Television Arts & Sciences already announced the winners of the ceremony's technical categories on September 7. That early announcement crowned "Widow's Bay," "DTF: St. Louis" and the recently cancelled "Spider-Noir" as the biggest winners among the technical awards.
Mariska Hargitay to host
Mariska Hargitay, best known for playing Detective Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," will host the ceremony. She is the first woman to take on the role in 15 years.
The Television Academy has also named a group of presenters who will hand out awards on stage, including Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Macaulay Culkin, Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma D'Arcy.
How to watch
HBO and TNT hold the official broadcast rights to the event this year. Coverage begins with red carpet arrivals, hosted by correspondent Carol Ribeiro. Ahead of the main ceremony, TNT Brasil's YouTube channel will also air a pre-show.
From 9 p.m., the ceremony will air on the linear channel and its streaming platform, with commentary from television and film specialist Aline Diniz and simultaneous translation provided by Regina Pierantoni Mccarthy and Robert Greathouse.
The Emmy Awards are presented annually by the Television Academy to recognize outstanding achievement in American television, spanning categories from drama and comedy to writing, directing and technical craft.
