Elizabeth-Jane Ross body found in suitcase in Athens

The remains of 38-year-old British tourist Elizabeth-Jane Ross have been found in a suitcase inside an abandoned building in Athens, People reported.

Ross arrived in Greece from the United Kingdom at the end of June and stayed with friends. She told her hosts that she was going to meet friends from the United States on July 15, after which she departed and disappeared.

On the day of her disappearance, one of her Greek friends received a text message from Ross's phone stating that she wanted to be alone for a short time. Her father told police that he continued receiving messages from her phone until her body was identified.

Police investigation and suspect arrest

Security camera footage led police to a 26-year-old homeless man with numerous body tattoos. He was arrested and confessed to transporting Ross's body in a suitcase. Investigators also suspect him of using her bank cards, though formal charges have not yet been filed.

The discovery comes after a similar case in Hungary, where a female tourist from the United States went missing after leaving a club. Her body was found in a suitcase in a forest, and her killer was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
