Greek singer Eleonora Zouganeli marked the start of August with a reflective Instagram post, posing on her motorbike and sharing her thoughts on the month with her followers.
In her post, Zouganeli described August as having arrived like a familiar visitor, carrying the scent of ripe figs, heavy grape clusters, and the salt that had soaked into skin all summer long. She evoked images of children still shouting and running in courtyards, groups breaking into song, and board games underway, with basil blooming and the sea filling with all the world’s stories.
She went on to describe August as the month of the Virgin Mary, of the Dekapentavgousto festivals that last until dawn, of reunited embraces, and of wishes spoken quietly beneath a starry sky. She called it the month with two moons, as though one were not enough to illuminate all that is loved.
Closing her post, Zouganeli acknowledged the sweet melancholy she said August always carries alongside its generosity. She wrote that people begin counting the last dives, the last sunsets, the last barefoot evenings of summer, and she described the month as unfolding like the final great song of the season. She wished her followers a good month, adding a note that she was not wearing a helmet in the photo because she was stationary.
