Dog behaviors that prove total loyalty named by experts

Professional canine behaviorists have detailed seven common dog actions that signal deep affection and loyalty toward their owners, according to a report by Paradepets. Experts note that owners often overlook these routine behaviors despite their specific biological and emotional meanings.

Molly Jespersen, a dog trainer at Camp Bow Wow, explained that dogs follow their owners everywhere, even to the bathroom, because they are pack animals whose sense of security relies on proximity to the person they trust most. Jespersen added that licking hands or faces originates from mother dogs grooming puppies, meaning dogs that lick their owners effectively recognize them as family members.

Exposing the belly shows high confidence and mutual trust because the abdomen is a dog's most vulnerable area, according to Amanda Farah, a trainer with Best Friends Animal Society. Direct eye contact with a soft, calm gaze also demonstrates connection by reassuring the owner of their mutual presence, updating older beliefs that eye contact always signals a threat.

Resting positions and familiar scents

Resting choices also reveal attachment, as dogs select sleep locations carefully due to the vulnerability required during sleep. Experts noted that dogs press closely against an owner's feet or bed to consciously share their most defenseless state, making sleep location one of the clearest indicators of trust.

Dogs also seek out items like socks or sweaters because scent is the primary way they store emotional information about a person, allowing a familiar smell to calm them. The report follows a previous article by UNIAN outlining five reasons dogs stare at owners, ranging from affection and curiosity to anxiety or feeling unwell.
