Channel Nine star Danika Mason skipped the early morning hours of the Today show on Thursday and Friday, opting for a sleep in for a second morning in a row during her pregnancy. The 35-year-old Logie-nominated sports reporter decided on a late start, coming in to work at 7am instead of her usual 5:30am start. The Daily Mail has reached out to Channel Nine for comment.

Channel Nine star Danika Mason, 35, appears to be getting in as much rest as possible amid her pregnancy as she skipped the early hours of Today on Thursday and Friday

Mason is expecting a baby girl in December with her fiancé, former NRL star Liam Knight. She first broke the news of her pregnancy live on Today in July, delighting her colleagues Sarah Abo, Tom Steinfort, Richard Wilkins and Jayne Azzopardi. The Today crew celebrated the announcement by bringing a cake to the NRL expert on set.

While she may be over the morning sickness stage, it seems Danika has decided on a late start, coming in at 7am for work instead of her usual 5:30am start. Pictured with fellow pregnant presenter Sarah Abo

During the announcement, Mason shared her excitement directly with viewers. "We feel so honoured to be brought into your households every single morning, so when there’s news here, it’s nice to share it with you guys first before the rest of the world gets to hear about it," Mason said. "So Liam and I are expecting a little baby, a little baby boom here on the Today show," she continued, referring to fellow presenter Sarah Abo's pregnancy.

Pregnancy updates and morning sickness

Mason also revealed that she has got over the morning sickness stage of her pregnancy. When Sarah Abo asked how she was feeling on air, Mason replied: "A lot better." She explained her earlier struggles, adding: "I was quite sick early on. So a little girl, due December, so off-season will be a little bit busier this year."

Speaking about her fiancé, Mason shared how excited Liam Knight is for fatherhood. "Liam is over the moon. He's so excited. He's ready to be a girl dad," she said. Mason praised her co-workers for supporting her during the early weeks. "Everyone here at Nine has been so supportive, so when I've been vomiting on the way to work and everything, everyone's been so good," she said.

She also recalled the moment she discovered she was expecting. "It's so funny, the moment that I knew I was pregnant, I had a chicken schnitzel craving. I just, honestly, all I could think about was chicken schnitzels."

Social media announcement and relationship history

The Nine star also announced her pregnancy on Instagram, posting a series of photos of her dog wearing a bib reading "promoted to big brother" as he sat in front of ultrasound images of her baby, as well as a shot of her positive pregnancy test. Her post drew heartfelt messages from sports and television stars, including former Souths player Jai Arrow, Renee Bargh, Nine NRL colleague Allana Ferguson and Sylvia Jeffreys.

Mason and Liam Knight went public with their romance in July 2024, just months after the Channel Nine sports presenter split from her ex-fiancé Todd Liubinskas. The couple confirmed their relationship on social media after months of speculation, with the footballer sharing a photo on his Instagram page of them embracing alongside the caption: "My life's good."
