Cultural and educational tours have emerged as the most advantageous travel choice for Russian vacationers this autumn as prices fall across key travel sectors, according to industry experts. Yuri Barzykin, vice-president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, shared the recommendations during an interview with the Russian news outlet Lenta.ru.
Barzykin explained that the late-season autumn travel period, traditionally known as the velvet season, is currently underway and offers substantial financial savings. Airfares have dropped by six to eight percent, while accommodation rates starting from October 1 are expected to be noticeably cheaper on average than those recorded during peak summer months.
The discount period is particularly suitable for consumers who are not restricted by school schedules or major work commitments. Although beach destinations remain the primary focus for travelers attracted by warm sea temperatures, logistical challenges continue to affect transport routes. Barzykin noted that railway services provide a reliable travel alternative for those facing transport difficulties.
Sightseeing Routes and Regional Travel Trends
While coastal resorts retain their popularity for now, cultural-educational and excursion trips have shown a marked surge in demand throughout the current year. The celebrated Golden Ring tourist route has already hosted approximately 15 million visitors over the first eight months of the year and continues to welcome steady arrivals.
The Golden Ring is a famous circuit of ancient cities located northeast of Moscow, renowned for centuries-old kremlins, historic monasteries, and traditional architecture. The Russian Union of Travel Industry, which tracks tourist flows along these routes, is the country's primary professional association representing tour operators, travel agencies, and hotel businesses.
To secure the best rates, Barzykin advised travelers to explore interregional destinations with shorter travel distances, as smaller departure legs significantly reduce overall costs. He stated that the favorable autumn travel window is expected to last until at least mid-October, adding that bookings for the upcoming winter ski season are already underway.
Outbound Holiday Travel Outlook
The shift toward budget-conscious domestic travel comes alongside warning signs for international holiday travel. Dmitry Arutyunov, co-head of the outbound tourism committee at the Russian Union of Travel Industry, previously warned that New Year tour packages to the United Arab Emirates could experience sharp price increases starting next week.
The United Arab Emirates, located on the Arabian Peninsula, is one of the top overseas destinations for Russian tourists seeking warm-weather winter breaks during the end-of-year holidays.
