Chris Watts is getting married again while serving multiple life sentences for the murders of his pregnant wife and two young daughters.
The convicted killer is engaged to 39-year-old Lizzie Henderson, who now uses the surname Watts.
An eyewitness told the Daily Mail they saw Watts and Henderson kissing in a public visiting area. The encounter took place one day after the seventh anniversary of the triple homicide.
Henderson previously worked as a realtor in Ohio before relocating to Wisconsin, where Watts is incarcerated. He was transferred to the Wisconsin facility from a Colorado prison due to "safety concerns."
Watts is denied conjugal visits. However, a 1987 Supreme Court ruling established that the constitutional right to marry applies to inmates.
Similar prison marriages
Other high-profile inmates have also formed relationships while incarcerated. Lyle and Erik Menendez, who are serving life sentences for shooting their parents at such close range that their mother's face was blown off, both married in prison.
Lyle Menendez later separated from his first wife and began a relationship with a younger girlfriend.
Serial killer Ted Bundy managed to impregnate his wife while on death row, despite also being denied conjugal visits.
The Watts case shares similarities with Scott Peterson, who is serving a life sentence for the 2002 murder of his wife Laci and their unborn son Conner. Laci was eight months pregnant at the time.
Both Watts and Peterson were involved in extramarital affairs when they committed their crimes.
Comparisons have also been drawn to Luigi Mangione, who pleaded guilty in New York on Friday to fatally shooting a husband and father.
The 2018 murders
Watts is serving life behind bars for the murders of his 34-year-old wife Shanann, who was 15 weeks pregnant, and their daughters Bella, four, and Celeste, three.
He confessed to strangling his wife shortly after having sex with her.
According to his confession, Bella walked into the room and asked, "What's wrong with Mommy?"
She then watched as Watts loaded her mother's body, wrapped in a bedsheet, into his truck. "She started crying a little bit," Watts told investigators.
Watts drove 40 miles to an oil site where he was employed, taking his two daughters and his wife's remains.
Confession details
After removing Shanann's body from the trunk of the vehicle, Watts returned to the truck. He told investigators that "Cece was first."
He placed a blanket over the three-year-old and suffocated her with his hand over her face while Bella watched. He then threw Celeste's body into an oil tank.
When he returned to the truck, Bella asked, "Is the same thing going to happen to me as Cece?"
Watts told investigators he could not remember if he responded to his daughter, saying he might have answered, "'yes' like a horrible person."
He used the same blanket to smother Bella before disposing of her body in a separate oil tank. He buried his wife in a shallow grave nearby.
Watts told investigators that he still thinks of Bella's final plea every day: "Daddy, no."
