Former VH1 reality star Daisy de la Hoya is applying for fast food jobs at McDonald's as she attempts to rebuild her life after hitting rock bottom. The 42-year-old performer has struggled to find employment in the fast food industry despite submitting multiple applications.
De la Hoya shared an update on her employment search on social media this week. "I just applied to McDonald's twice. Please do not tell me I am not trying to look for a job, Karen," she told fans. In a second post, she expressed her frustration with the hiring process, writing, "The jobs just don't want me. I'm over doing my best damn work every day for them."
The Colorado-born performer revealed that she had also applied for a position at Jack in the Box. Her posts drew sympathetic responses from followers online. "Don't worry, I've applied to McDonald's 5 times and never hear anything back! The job market is terrible!" one fan commented. Another follower wrote, "Girl you got this! You can do better than McDonald's!" A third user shared their own employment struggles, commenting, "Sending you all my love and manifesting for you Daisy! It is rough out here! I have a BA and 25 years of teaching experience and it's near impossible to get a job."
Current work and education
Outside of pursuing fast food positions, De la Hoya remains active in media and entertainment. She co-hosts a podcast called Pink Cassette and continues to work on her music.
In June, De la Hoya took on work as a door-to-door canvasser for Doctors Without Borders. "I really hope I can keep this job. Not only is it meaningful work, but it also aligns with my personal value system," she wrote on Instagram at the time. She also stated that she was starting summer school to further her education.
Rise to reality television fame
De la Hoya first shot to fame in 2008 as the breakout star of season two of VH1's dating competition Rock of Love with Bret Michaels. The show followed 25 women competing to become the girlfriend of the Poison frontman. Her popularity on the series led VH1 to grant her a dedicated spin-off show titled Daisy of Love.
Rock of Love was among the highest-rated VH1 shows of the 2000s, drawing 5.4 million viewers for its season 1 finale. The program was a spin-off from Flava Flav's dating series Flavor of Love, which was also one of the highest-rated reality shows of that decade. The franchise launched the careers of several notable late 2000s reality figures, including model Megan Hauserman alongside De la Hoya.
During the height of her fame in the late 2000s, De la Hoya was a regular fixture on Hollywood red carpets, rubbing shoulders with major rock musicians and reality stars. She was romantically linked to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, and Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille.
Substance abuse and recovery
Following her time on reality television, De la Hoya attempted to build a career as an actress and musician. However, her budding showbiz career was derailed by severe substance abuse issues.
In 2024, TMZ reported that actor Corey Feldman and former Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew star Jennifer Gimenez teamed up to get De la Hoya into a mental health treatment center. Gimenez told the outlet that De la Hoya had entered a 12-step program.
The intervention occurred shortly after De la Hoya was accused of stalking 90 Day Fiancé couple Mariah Fineman and Tom Brooks. Although De la Hoya denied the stalking allegations, she admitted to having a mental health episode. In a social media post in August 2025, she announced that she had graduated from a drug rehabilitation outpatient program.
