A self-styled "Chinese Nostradamus" has issued five predictions for the United States in 2027, including a nationwide military draft, widespread unrest and a full-blown economic collapse, according to a report by Metro.
Jiang Xueqin said he believed all the ingredients for a civil war could be in place as early as next year, though he stressed he was not forecasting a conventional war between two opposing armies fighting for control of the country.
Astrology, tarot reading, numerology, palmistry and similar practices are not recognised scientific disciplines. They rest on long-standing traditions and beliefs that have not been confirmed by research, and material of this kind is generally intended as entertainment rather than a basis for decisions or planning.
Nostradamus was a 16th-century French astrologer and physician whose collections of prophecies have inspired numerous self-declared successors around the world who claim to interpret current events.
ICE granted greater powers
Xueqin predicted that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE, would be granted greater powers by President Donald Trump over the coming year. ICE is the federal agency responsible for enforcing immigration law and has played a central role in the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.
ICE operations and wider immigration restrictions have already triggered protests across the country, he noted. Xueqin said he also believed the National Guard could be deployed in every major American city in preparation for economic turmoil and a military draft.
Nationwide unrest forecast
Xueqin does not claim to be clairvoyant. He said his predictions were based on his own interpretation of political and geopolitical events rather than any claimed ability to see the future, and that he believed the necessary components for a civil war would be in place at some point during 2027.
Rather than a conventional conflict between two opposing armed forces, he said he expected protests, riots and uprisings to produce a period of what he called low-intensity conflict.
Military draft over Iran conflict
His third prediction was that America would lay the groundwork for a nationwide military draft during 2027. Xueqin said he believed conscription would be introduced to supply troops for a long and escalating conflict with Iran.
A forecast published on his website, Predictive History, states that the United States will deploy ground troops in Iran, requiring a nationwide military draft, with men being called up from the age of 18.
Explaining the prediction on Jack Neel's podcast, Xueqin said preparations may already be under way ahead of next year. He said a law establishing a nationwide draft may already have been passed, or that certain individuals may already have been conscripted.
Midterm elections unlikely to go as expected
Another of Xueqin's predictions concerns the US midterm elections in November 2026, which will determine control of Congress. He said he expected several surprises and that the result would turn out differently from what people expected. He said he was not suggesting the elections would be cancelled, but that Trump and Republicans were currently trying to pass a bill called the SAVE America Act.
The proposed legislation would require voters to provide proof of American citizenship when registering to vote, and would introduce stricter checks on voter identity and citizenship.
Although Xueqin acknowledged he was not sure how the election would turn out, he suggested the result could have little bearing on the country's direction. He said it barely mattered how the midterms ended, because Republicans could well remain in power and retain control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, in which case Trump would continue what Xueqin called his war. He added that the outcome would not change the trajectory of the war, because that course had already been set.
Economic collapse warning
His final prediction for 2027 is that a prolonged conflict with Iran could devastate the US economy, with effects reaching far beyond America. He said the involvement of ground troops over several years would be especially damaging.
Xueqin said that if America sent ground troops into Iran and the conflict lasted four to five years and the United States lost that war, it would mean the collapse of the American economy. Discussing the conditions he believes could trigger large-scale civil unrest, he went further, saying the global economy would have to decline as well.
