The 56-year-old presenter currently records digital content for over three million followers from the rural compound. He also hosts the show Better Human Better Dog, which has aired from his ranch since 2021.
Millán grew up in a rural area of Culiacán before crossing the United States border in 1991. He arrived with barely 100 dollars without knowing the English language. He began working in dog training in Los Angeles, where he caught the attention of influential figures including actress Jada Pinkett Smith.
Support from the entertainment industry helped Millán open his first training center. In 2004, he launched the television show Dog Whisperer on National Geographic, focusing on re-educating pets with behavioral issues. The series ran for 12 seasons and 189 episodes, opening doors to international studios and the homes of celebrities like Virginia Madsen and Patti LaBelle.
International franchises and personal struggles
The success of his brand led to franchises such as Leader of the Pack. The show took Millán to Spain to promote his methods on high-audience programs including El Hormiguero. However, heavy media exposure and the end of his initial television era coincided with a difficult personal period.
Millán faced grief following the death of his famous dog, Daddy. The trainer has openly acknowledged on several occasions that he suffered an emotional breakdown during this time.
