Art Directors Guild presents Michael Denering Lifetime Achievement Award

picturesque artist Michael Denering will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Art Directors Guild in February.

Denering is best known for his creative painting Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events Toys Die Hard Batman Returns Jurassic Park and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

The awards are from the Scenic, Title & Graphic Artists and will be announced on April 27e Annual GDT Awards. The ceremony also honors winners in 14 production design categories and will be held at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown in the Wilshire Grand Ballroom. This is the first of four Lifetime Achievement Awards announced by the Art Directors Guild.

“Michael Denering is what his peers call a ‘dynamic’ landscape painter,” said Clint Schultz, Chairman of the STG Board of Directors. “From his early days painting at CBS Television City to his years at Warner Brothers Studios, Mike has featured his murals and sets in over 100 films in his filmmaking career. Additionally, Mike’s commercial work outside of Hollywood spans the globe. I first met Mike when I joined the STG board in 2015. His work as a teacher and his insight into the history of our trade paved the way for many members to be successful in this industry and the GDT. It is an honor to present Michael with the Scenic, Title & Graphics Lifetime Achievement Award. Michael continues to champion and inspire the next generation of artists.”

The recipients of the Cinematic Imagery Award, Lifetime Achievement Awards, Hall of Fame and William Cameron Menzies Awards will be announced at a later date.

Denering’s work as a stage artist has graced productions in television, film, theater and studios throughout a varied career spanning 42 years. In addition to many other films and TV shows, Michael has collaborated Dennis the Menace, Kong: Skull Island, Hoffa, Django Unchained, American Horror Story, Glee, Grace & Frankie, The Jimmy Kimmel Show, Archie Bunker’s Place, The Carol Burnett Show, Three’s Company, Wild Wild West, Angels and Demons and Come to America.

Denering spent 26 years at Warner Bros. spent in various capacities. He moved to Fox Studios and worked on murals for outdoor stages, e.g. B. for movies Young Frankenstein, The Seven Year Itch, Family Guy, The Oxbow Incident, The Simpsons and Star Wars. Denering also painted sets for the Mark Taper Forum, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Ahmanson Theater in downtown LA. Its beautiful setting graces Disney’s Epcot Center and various plays and operas.
