The funny thing about this work and this particular series we call The actor’s sideis that every once in a while I have an opportunity to strike up a conversation with someone who I really think is a legend in the film world, however you want to define the term.
When I mentioned the Jacqueline Bisset Word At the beginning of our interview for my Deadline video series, she was a little hesitant, knowing that she herself has worked with many legends and doesn’t really fit into that category. But in a career that now spans nearly 60 years, Bisset is certainly a survivor and will even admit to being called an “icon” by some. However you choose to put it, Jacqueline Bisset is a star and a truly amazing actress who continues to work and deserves to continue to find roles worthy of her talent.
I tell her that she practically started her film career in what I still consider my absolute favorite film, 1967. Two for the road in which she plays a small role in the film directed by Stanley Donen, starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney.
Later in her career, she co-starred with Finney in another classic, John Hustons under the volcano and here she shares great stories about working with Huston (whom she calls a “dangerous man”), not only about him, but about Paul Newman The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. All too soon we touch on her work in Forever movies like Bullitt with Steve McQueen and Francois Truffaut’s Oscar winners day after night, A film she says has given her newfound credibility in the industry. She also talks about making The deptha film experience she enjoyed until the studio mainly marketed it with her in a wet t-shirt, which she believed was exploiting her.
Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Anthony Quinn, William Holden, Marcello Mastroianni, Jean Paul Belmondo, Nick Nolte and so many others she worked with, even Sir Laurence Olivier customs service, although she notes that they didn’t have any scenes together, but instead had a very memorable dinner on the spot. Speaking of memorable dinners, one thing is the focus of her new film. Loren and Rose, which revolves around a famous actress who has seen better days with a very young director for the lead role in his new movie. The role of Rose in this independent Russell Brown Bisset film landed one of the best roles of her career and she gives a great performance.
We talk about that and more, including the night she won a Golden Globe for the 2013 TV movie, dancing on the edge and was so shocked that it became one of the most memorable moments at any awards ceremony. may be Lorraine and Rose will give her another shot at recognition for a remarkable career.
