In June 1982, when the Prince and Princess of Wales’ first child was born, the choice of a name arose. The debate lasted a whole week. The baby’s father had two options, but they named the child whatever his mother wanted.
Charles wanted to name his eldest son Arthur, in honor of the hero of King Arthur’s medieval chivalric romances. Another argument was that Arthur was the middle name of Charles himself. The father’s relapse was the name Albert. But Diana rejected both her husband’s proposals.
Diana, Princess of Wales, suggested a stronger name — William, in honor of William the Conqueror, who won the famous Battle of Hastings in 1066″ – conveys the words of the royal historian Andrew Morton edition Pop Sugar.
However, Diana made some concessions and agreed to leave the name Arthur second. So the prince was officially named William Arthur Philip Louis.
When the second heir of the couple was born, the father again remembered the name Albert. Diana thought it was too old-fashioned, but allowed him to keep it as her youngest son’s third name. The prince’s name was Henry Charles Albert David. Diana insisted on the first name again.
