Britain’s supreme ruler was surprised by the choice.
The late Queen Elizabeth II had time to meet Yuri Gagarin and Nikita Khrushchev in person, but only visited Russia once. The monarch met the Russian president and offered him an unusual gift.
It happened in 1994. The heiress of the Windsor dynasty visited Moscow and St. Petersburg, walked around Red Square and explored the Hermitage. As a welcoming host, Boris Yeltsin met Elizabeth.
Later he spoke of the gift the Queen gave him. It was a small chest made of wood, containing a piece of royal heritage.
“I opened it, and it blew out a kind of children’s fairy tale. There were many drawers in the box. In the boxes are bags with seeds. A whole collection of seeds from the royal garden, ”Yeltsin quotes Marie Clara.
