The death of Queen Elizabeth II suspends the Canadian Emmy Party in official mourning

Queen Elizabeth II’s death on Thursday impacted the Emmy Awards here in Los Angeles.

We have learned that a party scheduled for the Canadian Consulate in Hollywood tonight has been officially postponed.

Citing “out of respect for the queen’s death” and protocol, the traditionally well-attended Los Angeles event should be rescheduled for a future date. However, with more than a week of official mourning in the UK and Commonwealth countries such as Canada, the consulate led by Zaib Shaikh is unlikely to throw a party before the Emmys in the early evening on September 12.

With Canadian nominees in multiple categories, the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on NBC Monday. Returning to an in-person meeting for the first time in more than two years due to the pandemic, the Canadians’ Emmy Awards reception was scheduled for tonight at Beauty and Essex on Cahuenga Boulevard.

Like Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and many other former members of the British Empire, the monarch who lives in Buckingham Palace is the head of state of Canada.

It is not yet known whether the BAFTA TV Tea Party will take place on September 10 in Beverly Hills. We have contacted BAFTA and will update when they are answered.
