For co-creator Ashley Lyle, this is a universal story about imperfect women. The show tells side stories about a high school football team who survived a plane crash in 1996 and about survivors as adults.
“Our goal was to capture this noble concept that people have come up with and use it to charm women and mask our story,” Lyle told Deadline Contenders Saturday at Paramount Studios.
As Shauna’s adult survivor, Melanie Linsky said we only saw the beginning of her character’s unraveling. Shana started a relationship and killed a rabbit in the first season. Linsky also said she was ready to rest after the baby was born, but yellow jackets It was too good not to go out.
“I like to play someone who looks like a normal housewife and then goes in many directions,” Linsky said. “There is still a lot to do. I feel that the first strand of wool has been removed from Shauna and there is still a lot to do.”
Tawny Cypress plays the adult Taisa, who is now a political candidate. He also sees dark potential in the exceptions of the 1996 show.
“I read and saw horror elements in the pilot episode,” Cypress said. “I’m such a horror fan that I thought, ‘God, it would be a great dream to be able to do something like that.'”

Karin Kusama directed the pilot yellow jackets. Together with creators Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Kusama created a model to balance the show’s two timelines.
“We expected the effect of time to be almost negligible,” said Kusama. “The message of the show, to a certain extent, was that if you don’t work in the past, it moves into the present with you. So the idea was to move almost seamlessly between these two timelines. I feel like we talked about it creatively soon enough. “
Lyle didn’t want to use filter-like clichés in the 1996 scenes. His hope is that viewers will follow both stories with the same investment.
“Both stories are in the present,” Lyle said. “They somehow disintegrate in tandem. Obviously, there is a timeline for the story, but these characters develop simultaneously. I hope we have created a show where both dates are equally compelling. “
