Fern Britton, author and former host of This Morning, talked about the rather unusual reason why she decided to leave her first husband, Clive, in 1998.
Fern Britton revealed the rather unusual reason why her first marriage to ex-husband Clive Jones ended.
The TV personality, who previously presented This Morning, took a Mensa test that led to her divorce.
He passed the IQ test, which verifies and predicts the user’s IQ, while Clive has failed.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star admitted, “He had that title and I didn’t. I went secretly and did the canteen. I lied, I said I was going somewhere else and it took me a day to do this test. I did it and quite well too.
He continued: “So he was crazy, so he did it because he has a super brain, but he’s not a problem solver and he didn’t understand it. Then a huge gap opened up.
The “breakup” meant that the couple finally decided to separate and separated from Clive, who is the father of three of their children, in 1998 after 10 years of marriage.
Fern also revealed that she didn’t know how smart she was until she received test results from Mensa, which confirmed her high IQ level.
Despite her high test score and obvious intelligence, Fern has been outspoken about impostor syndrome, despite having been hugely successful and has written ten books since leaving ITV’s This Morning in 2009.
Britton said he thought he could host Newsnight, admitting, “Some people think, ‘Oh, she’s too stupid’, but I’m actually brilliant.”
Fern was also married to Phil Vickery, a This Morning regular, who appears frequently on the show during the cooking segment.
She married the TV chef in 2000, but two decades later they separated.
Fern also spoke to Lorraine Kelly about her hosting career and admitted she misses her old role.
The former host said she “loved the job” but “she didn’t like all the attention”, then joked that while she was still introducing herself, “she couldn’t go out with a silly scarf like a big fat olive on her legs” .
The former Strictly star joked that she was “different then”, while Lorraine commented that she “looked great”.
