Why “Dexter: Original Sin” closed (fans launched a petition, but it won’t help either)

Fans of “Dexter” waited for an unpleasant surprise: Despite the recent official expansion, the “Dexter: First -Torous Sin” series will not receive the second season. The Paramount Studio unexpectedly changed thoughts to continue the prequel, although she confirmed the work on the new season only four months ago and even collected a team of screenwriters led by Claid Phillips.

The official reason for the cancellation was not mentioned, which only increased bewilderment among the public.

There were no reasons for the termination: the first season, released from December 2024 to February 2025, showed excellent results and became the most viewed premiere on Showtime In the entire history of the service. Assessment in Kinopoisk – 8.0 out of 10.

In fact, the reason why they closed the “original sin” is very simple.

Paramount decided to concentrate on the new sequel – “Dexter: Resurrection”, which is now in the air, has already collected the highest assessments (94% on rotten tomatoes) and not only shows itself as a successful branch, but as a new growth point of the entire franchise.

The studio invested forces, money and marketing in the “resurrection” – and of course does not want to holl the interest, share the budget or the attention of the public between two parallel projects. A typical strategy “set up one flagship not to lose an impulse.”

Even successful TV programs are not safe: Paramount, just like other Meaggers, saves the costs and optimizes projects after a wave of abbreviations in the strimination industry. The first season of “Original Sin” was more expensive than expected castes with stars, authentic surveys from Miami of the 90s, licenses. At the same time, the “resurrection” is already in the elevator and easier to earn: the return of cult characters, nostalgia, success in old and new fans.

Despite the cancellation, the fans do not give up: a petition appeared on Change.org in which he was asked to save “original sin” – within a few weeks it was signed by almost 80 thousand people around the world, and the number is growing every day. In the text of the petition, the series is called “exciting and unmerited canceled”.

But so far there are no signs that the initiative will be able to change the decision of the Paramount: a similar action after the cancellation of the “Wheel of Time” collected more than 220 thousand signatures, but has not helped to return the series.
