The release date “Shrek 5” is finally known, but it will have to wait longer than we thought

Universal Studio has postponed the premiere of the cartoon “Shrek 5” for six months – now it is not released on December 23, 2026, as planned, but June 30, 2027in the middle of the summer season.

This is the second transfer for the year: in January the date was shifted from July 1, 2026 to December, and now the project was pushed entirely out of the first schedule for a whole year.

It seems that Universal was just afraid of competition and now the oversaturated party schedule of releases is trying to avoid – “Avengers: Judgement Day” and “Dun: Part Three” are already coming out. It is a pity that Shrek 5 will not come to the 25th anniversary of the first part (2001) because of this decision.

Who will return and what is already known about the plot

The most important stars are again in the ranks: Mike Mayers and Eddie Murphy will again express Shrek and Doner, and Cameron Diaz will return to the role of Princess Fiona. The new face of the franchise is Zendea, who will play Shrek’s daughter. Details of the plot are kept secret, but it is known that the action will unfold after the events of the “Cat in Boots 2: Last Desire”.

In the regulatory objectives – the veterans of the Konrad Vernon and Walt Dorn series, who worked on earlier units, as well as Brad Ebleon (“Minions: Gruvitation”).

In addition to the fifth part, DreamWorks prepares a solo cartoon for a donkey. Eddie Merphy said that the work on the spin-off will start in September, and he has already recorded a lot of material for Schrek 5 and promised that the audience was waiting for a “very funny story”. According to him, it was easy and of course to return to the role, and improvisation on voice acting would be sufficient for a separate film.
