The last episode of the “Mentalist” was released in 2015 and put an end to the history of seven season.
The last series ended with a fully -fledged Happy End: the authors deliberately chose a clear, emotional and maximum logical end, so that the audience had no sense of incompleteness.
This is how it all ended:
In the last episodes, Jane falls into a dangerous situation: he is abducted by the serial killer Lazarus. He calls himself a “blood collector” and accuses Jane van Verdende Liegen about his capacities. If you are imprisoned, Jane discovers proof that the insanity of the insanity indicates – including the remains of his own father. He uses this information to play on the psychosis of Lazarus and Run. An explosion takes place during the escape, but the abductor also succeeds in surviving.
Later, when Jane and Lisbon rest in a remote hut, he suddenly removes the ring from the ring finger and says, “I am no longer married.” This is not recognition, but a sentence: he asks Lisbon to marry him, hoping that the ring will now symbolize the past and the future.

Lisbon first wants a modest ceremony, but, after relatives invited, the effect of Domino is confronted: old friends, colleagues and relatives start to participate in the celebration. Ebbott offers a party on its farm, Cho helps to choose a dress. Rigsby and Van Palt are coming back – together with the entire army of children, which is especially tired of Lisbon. Against the background of stress, she wants to escape and cancel everything at some point. Jane offers an option – just to escape together and get married in a hut, far from the whole fuss.
But even there they are overtaken by the threat: Lazarus hides in the trunk of the car. However, Lisbon and FBI agents prepare for an attack in advance. At the right time, the Capture group takes the murderer without interrupting the ceremony. The wedding was still taking place.
The latest scenes are the most positive ending: a vacation, dancing and a sudden recognition of Lisbon: it’s pregnant.

The maker of the Bruno Heller series explained in an interview that it was such a final from the very beginning:
“If there is a chance to really finish the series, and not in the direction of the channel, it would have to end up on a positive note. Stories for this exist.”
The performer of the role of Lisbon Robin Tanny added:
“This hardly happens in life. That is why it should be on television – after seven seasons, the audience had to give the feeling that the heroes would live on. We owed it to them.”
Why the “mentalist” did not end after Red John – and what went wrong
Among the fans of the “mentality”, the myth is still widespread: the “suddenly closed” series, and the logical end was “cut off”. In fact, everything was different.
When the series started at CBS in 2008, nearly 20 million people looked at it. It was an absolute hit:
- IN Season 1 – 19.7 million spectators
- IN 4 season – Al 11.2 million
- NASTY 7 season The reviews started to fall, despite the attempts to restart
Head of Warner Bros. TV Peter Roth, according to the Showransuers themselves, sets the situation at a certain stage: continuation is only possible if the storyline with Red John is closed. By that time she was exhausted and delayed the development of the project.
“If you want the sixth season – Red John has to be removed. Then, restart,” the producers remembered.
So they did: in the middle of the sixth season, the screenwriters completed the main arch and the seventh season became essentially independent. Jane moved to work for the FBI, the team changed new heroes. But the audience is already tired. The final of Red John’s arch did not produce the expected effect and the importance of the public did not return.
The CBS channel also did not want to support the project: they reduced the advertisement, the series was moved to uncomfortable Sunday, where it was regularly shifted because of football broadcasts. Warner Bros. However, it was possible to reach a short -seventh season abbreviated – as a concession for the international public.
