But his relationship with the largest cinema market in the world – China – spoiled at night. And, unlike colleagues, Reeves did not change his position.
It all started in March 2022, when the actor appeared during a charity concert to support Tibet. Chinese nationalists considered this a personal insult: in social networks they immediately raised the campaign against the Reeves and called for the boycott of all his films. Formally the authorities did not intervene at that time, but after a few weeks the consequences became clear: films with Kian began to disappear from the greatest Chinese streaming platforms.

There were no official statements, but the reasons were clear. However, the actor did not apologize. Moreover, instead of apologizing, he recorded a video in which he reads the poem of Allen Ginzberg “Pull My Daisy”. For many it looked like a demonstrative gesture – they say that the position will not change.
Reeves never apologized for the support of Tibet and did not seriously commented on the scandal.
Nevertheless, the situation changed in 2023. John Wick 4 went to the Chinese rental – without censorship, which was a surprise. Earlier, none of the movies of the John Wic series received permission to show in Chinese cinemas, and indeed militants with the assessment R is usually prohibited.
