Based on the first assessments, the ‘resurrection’ turned out to be something that nobody expected particularly: giving back the atmosphere for which the fans fell in love with the original.
The series, which wanted to leave the past alone, suddenly started with a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes. Yes, only seven reviews – but no negative. What is even more important, critics notice: “Resurrection” does not try to please no one. It just keeps telling history – with the same cynical voice behind the scenes, the same black humor and the strangest but recognizable murderers.
The most important plus is the return of Claid Phillips, show grant of the first seasons of Dexter. According to the reviewers, it was he who again felt the right tone. The murders are again not only inventive, but also stylistically verified. New York, as a new location, adds freshness, but does not come from the atmosphere. Many emphasize that looking at the “resurrection” is especially interesting after the “original sin” of the prequel, which closes the holes and makes the motivation of the characters more readable.
IGN writes:
“It doesn’t look like a desperate attempt to give back the old fans or to drag new ones. This is just a worthy continuation, which works even better in the context of the entire trilogy.”
Indiewire adds:
“Humor, the situation, new villains – all this is felt like a natural development, and not as a tense rebranding.”
Of course it wasn’t without minuses. Some critics complain that the structure sometimes falls apart, and the plot goes to almost parody hyperbool. But at the same time they recognize: even in this form the series holds the bar and clearly better than the final of the original Dexter.
According to the plot, Dexter comes from a coma and goes to New York to look for a son. The entire main composition is back: Michael S. Hall, Jack Elcott, James Rimar, David Zaiaas, John Litgou, Jimmy Smiths. Plus an impressive addition in the form of a whole list of stars:

Such a series of actors in itself is important – and clearly indicates that the show is not only emotionally, but also financially invested.
