Christopher Nolan has, as you know, no hurry to talk about and without – but when he still says, he reports his opinion extremely honest.
In the recently reprinted book by Tom Shona, “The Nolan Vari”, his recognition appeared, which is both characteristic and funny. We are talking about “Dark Knight: Renaissance” – the final of the Batman Trilogy. It turns out that Nolan doubted for a long time whether it was worth shooting a third part. Because, in his opinion, good trickels in nature are almost never found.
“There are no good third parts. Well, maybe only Rocky 3. But this is very difficult,” he says in an interview, adding that this is the reason why he decided to change the genre vector.
The first film was the history of the formation of the hero, the second criminal drama in the spirit of the ‘fight’, and the third, according to his idea, was supposed to be something between the historical epic and the catastrophic film.
The logic of the studio thinking is understandable: it is impossible to reduce the scale in the third part, you have to “blow everything up” to make it loud. Although, as fans notice, this is just a problem.

Nolan’s statement immediately caused a wave of comments. A user reminded that the third film no longer has to be big – enough to be better. Others immediately remembered their favorite trickers: “Back to the Future 3”, “The Devil 3”, and someone even dared to call “Alien 3”.
It is curious that of all possible examples, Nolan exactly “Rocky 3” Koos-in a certain sense, this is really the standard of commercially successful continuation, which suddenly turned out not to be worse than its predecessors. But otherwise it is difficult to argue with the director: worthy trickels are a rare beast. And so that the third film does not look like a faded shade from the previous two – this happens once a decade. Or two.
