Hope dies last.
JJ Abrams’ modern remake of Star Trek effectively ended in 2016, when the blockbuster Star Trek Beyond hit theaters.
After the release of the threequel to Kirk and Spock’s story, Paramount shelved the franchise. Fans have been waiting for news about the fourth film for over six years, and it wasn’t until 2022 that they received confirmation that Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto would be reprising their roles in the near future.
But in 2024, the film is still in pre-production. Paramount hired a screenwriter to develop the plot of the fourth installment, but there were no official announcements about the start of production.
Star Trek fans have already managed to “bury” their favorite franchise, but Zachary Quinto unexpectedly revealed in a recent interview that he is still hoping for the release of Star Trek 4.
“The great thing is that Star Trek is a limitless universe. Look at all the television shows, think about those stories, characters and timelines. Everything is possible. This is the main advantage of the franchise. That’s why it took 60 years. I’m open to a new film.” Quinto said.
Of course, the actor’s words in no way confirm the release of “Star Trek 4” in the near future. However, space opera fans are still happy to know that a key player in the franchise is set to play Spock again.
“Star Trek Beyond” only grossed $343 million and received a rating of 6.9 points of Kinopoisk users – it is not surprising that they decided to freeze the franchise.
