Did you think modern action was all green screen?
Computer graphics have become an integral part of cinema and many viewers are already accustomed to the abundance of special effects on the screen. However, there are directors who still prefer to use real shots and minimal use of CGI to achieve maximum authenticity.
These blockbusters amaze not only with their scale and action, but also with the fact that it was all filmed live and not completed on green screen (with rare exceptions). Our selection includes 10 recent films that prove that practical effects and production skills still matter in cinema.

The development of computer graphics in cinema is of course a double-edged sword. On the one hand, special effects make it possible to create those worlds and tricks that filmmakers of the last century could only dream of. On the other hand, they can turn a film into a cutscene from a computer game: many fans complain that this has even spread to TV series (we remember with horror the ancient Rome of 3D models in “Destined for Glory”… ).
But most of the complaints at the moment concern the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where many films have really turned into demonstrations of the capabilities of CGI artists, rather than exciting superhero stories. In addition, whole groups of disgruntled computer artists are forming around superhero films, who complain that the workload has increased many times over, but the salary has not.
