A score of 5.3 out of 10 is a disappointing result.

Hellboy doesn’t seem destined for a commercially successful film franchise.

In late August, another film dedicated to the hero was released, entitled ‘The Curse of the Hunchback’, which failed miserably at the box office, grossing $208,000.

Besides the fact that it received very low ratings in Russia and the world – only 5 points on IMDb – the project hardly interested critics in leaving reviews for it.

What went wrong?

The main reason for the failure could be the cost-cutting of the Millennium Media studio.

Jack Kesy, who had proven himself as a talented actor from ‘The Alienist’ and ‘Sheriff’, but was not world famous, was invited to play the lead role in the film.

The position of director went to the equally little-known Brian Taylor.

Considering the names on the list of creators and cast, as well as the quality of the special effects, the estimated budget was only $20 million.

For comparison, here are the prices of previous modifications.

2004’s Hellboy, starring Ron Perlman, cost $60 million and was visually stunning by Guelliermo del Toro, yet it only grossed $100 million.

The 2008 sequel cost $85 million and failed again, selling 160 million in receipts.

The duology was abandoned, but eleven years later, director Neil Marshall attempted to revive the project by inviting Stranger Things star David Harbour.

With a budget of $50 million, the creative team only made $44 million.

This isn’t the only mistake the film company made. Some viewers complained about Hunchback’s use of artificial intelligence to design monsters.

“Why do this when Mike Mignola [автор оригинальных комиксов]“I’m sure I’d like to draw something?” The fan was stunned.

Somehow, the film followed in the footsteps of its predecessors and never gave fans hope for the best.
