Why Were They Filmed At All? 10 Failed Remakes of Cult Films

Did anyone really think it could be better?

Remakes of cult films are always a subject of heated debate. After all, taking on the responsibility of remaking a classic work is not an easy task. However, such attempts are not always crowned with success.

Some remakes fail so badly that audiences and critics wonder why they were made at all. Having lost the magic of the original, they are either spoiled by unnecessary changes or suffer from bad writing and bad direction. In this material, we have collected 10 remakes that failed miserably (and to be honest, they couldn’t have been otherwise).

Perhaps the one that angers fans the most is the 1998 remake of Psycho, directed by Gus Van Sant. The biggest problem, of course, was the almost frame-for-frame copy of the original. Van Sant kept not only the structure, but also the dialogue, editing, camera angles, and even the soundtrack. However, the film lost the tension and atmosphere that made the original a cult classic.

The remake was received extremely negatively by viewers and critics. Many found it pointless, as it offered nothing new and interesting. The lack of a new perspective and emotional depth ultimately made the film a complete failure, both at the box office and in the eyes of the public (surprise).

The moral is simple: don’t revive the classics. Especially when it’s Alfred Hitchcock: his films still live, unlike secondary remakes.
