For a long time, the screenwriter didn’t realize that his young son was a huge fan of the not-so-kiddie show.
“Game of Thrones” became a cultural phenomenon almost immediately after the release of its first season in 2011, but even some industry leaders had no idea for a long time that the show itself was anything special.
For example, Steven Knight, the creator of the crime drama “Peaky Blinders” starring Cillian Murphy, recently admitted that he considered “Game of Thrones” a project for children until he invited one of the show’s actors to direct his own series.

According to Knight, his son has never hidden the fact that he is a huge fan of the cinematic universe based on George Martin’s books — so much so that he even asked his father to get him a special DVD edition of ‘Game of Thrones’ for Christmas. Knight readily granted his son’s wish after seeing that the box set featured dragons, and therefore thought that Game of Thrones was nothing more than a regular kids’ show.
The truth was revealed when Knight invited Aidan Gillen, known for his role as Petyr Baelish on ‘Game of Thrones’, to appear on ‘Peaky Blinders’. Then someone close to the screenwriter told him that the actor plays a brothel owner on the hit HBO show, and Knight, in turn, shocked those around him no less by admitting that all along he considered ‘Game of Thrones’ to be something much more innocent.
