Despite being hailed as the best series in television history, Game of Thrones has one major problem: fans simply hate the ending of the Westeros saga.
Viewers were angry that HBO writers first turned Daenerys into a villain and then allowed Jon Snow to kill her – fans of George RR Martin’s original books found this ending ridiculous and offensive.
It’s no surprise that the final episode of The Iron Throne has a bad rating on IMDb 4.0 points out of 10 possible.

However, not everyone agrees that the final episode of Game of Thrones was a disappointment. In a recent interview, Peter Dinklage himself defended the ending of the show.
“Again, this is just my opinion. But I liked the ending! You don’t have to agree with me. What if I said, ‘Yeah, I agree. I hate the ending. The whole last season was terrible’? It would have been a lot worse than if I had said I liked him, which I did.” according to Dinklage.
The actor wisely noted that the ending resonated with many people, but not all of them could share his opinion due to the fact that most Game of Thrones fans were against it.
Five years after the release of Game of Thrones season 8, it’s worth admitting that the ending wasn’t all that horrible. Daenerys was finally able to seize the Iron Throne, but she only achieved this by sacrificing her humanity. The writers created a clever metaphor about the true cost of power, but many fans missed the point and focused only on their expectations.
