They managed to combine drama and historical accuracy.
Films about World War II always attract more attention, because they touch on one of the most important chapters in world history. However, not every war film can boast accuracy and respect for historical facts. Some paintings focus on drama and forget about reality, while others strive to preserve the authenticity of the events and the atmosphere of that time.
We have collected 10 films that could not only gain recognition from viewers, but also praise from historians for their authenticity. These films carefully recreate the details of the war and prove that it is not necessary to sacrifice historical facts for the sake of drama.

This selection includes two Christopher Nolan films. The first is, of course, Dunkirk, which has earned a near-perfect review on Rotten Tomatoes: 92% from critics and 81% from audiences. Unsurprisingly, Nolan’s meticulous attention to detail paid off: even the most discerning critics noted that the film recreated the era almost perfectly. Even less surprisingly, Dunkirk received eight Oscar nominations, winning in three categories.
Nolan’s latest film, Oppenheimer, followed the same path. The epic film about the father of nuclear weapons captivated everyone: not least thanks to the strange phenomenon of co-distribution with Greta Gerwig’s film ‘Barbie’. And although ‘Barbie’ managed to achieve more commercial success, Nolan’s dark historical drama received a well-deserved ovation: the film won no less than 7 ‘Oscars’, including in the category ‘Best Picture’.
