Such series attract attention with their veracity (or, conversely, inaccuracies and interpretations) and allow for a deeper understanding of what happened behind the scenes of famous events. For example, an action-packed political drama from Shonda Rhimes called “Scandal” with Kerry Washington, which ran for seven seasons. The series is based on the character of Judy Smith, the former head of George W. Bush’s press office, who is also a counter-crisis manager and lawyer.
Her clients included Monica Lewinsky after an affair with the US president, actor Wesley Snipes, who owed $15 million in taxes, and even the film studio Sony Pictures Entertainment, whose databases were hacked by North Korean hackers.
One day, Judy Smith, who left the White House to open her own consulting firm, came in for an interview with showrunner Shonda Rhimes. The conversation was scheduled for half an hour — but it turned into a three-hour conversation, and then the series “Scandal,” of which Smith herself became a co-producer.
