Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune did everything David Lynch could only dream of in the 80s. Villeneuve not only managed to convey the scope and atmosphere of Frank Herbert’s books, but also captivated a mass audience. Many of us still quote “Lisan al Ghaib” memes even though we haven’t seen Dune at all; and fans of Herbert’s universe will be happy to see that an avid fan of the original, Villeneuve, has managed to film their favorite story to near perfection.
Star Wars fans experienced much the same thing when Rogue One came out. After the media franchise was acquired by Disney, many fans were disappointed with the new content: it seemed to them that their beloved universe was now simply “milked” for money, without introducing anything really new and valuable. “Rogue One” is a pleasant exception that managed to bring back old fans to their childhood and attract new ones.
Granted, almost 10 years have passed since then and the only worthy new project in the Star Wars universe is the Andor series. The new series “Acolyte” turned out to be so bad and so coldly received by fans that it had to be canceled after the first season. Well, maybe all is not lost for the distant galaxy?
