A typical early 2010s action movie.
In 2011, only the most dedicated movie fans had heard of Henry Cavill. The young actor had just landed the role of Superman in the upcoming blockbuster “Man of Steel” when Hollywood producers decided to test his talent and invited him to join the cast of the film “In Broad Daylight.”
An unknown actor was cast in the lead role, and Bruce Willis signed on for a minor role – at that time he was still considered a prestigious actor.
The plot of this thriller revolves around a man, Will Shaw, who, during a trip to Spain, unexpectedly learns about a government conspiracy. His father, a former intelligence agent, will help Will understand the espionage intrigue and save his family.
No one expected incredible results from this banal action film, but even the project’s main critics were surprised by how poorly Mabrouk El Mekri’s film performed at the box office.
With a budget of $20 million, the film could only raise money 25 million. And critics hated this cheap copy of The Bourne Identity so much they gave it away 4% “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.
Luckily for Cavill, the contract to play Clark Kent had already been signed, otherwise Zack Snyder might have changed his mind about casting him in the film after seeing the results of In Broad Daylight.
Surprisingly, 13 years later, “In Broad Daylight” has become an unexpected streaming hit. The film recently hit the Freevee platform, and subscribers to Amazon’s free streaming service have already watched it more 1 million times.
Most likely, fans were just interested in seeing the young Cavill, who is already considered one of the biggest stars in Hollywood in 2024.
