They were simply cramped for film size.
Despite the enormous popularity of stories by the “king of horror” Stephen King, not all film adaptations of his books are masterpieces. Of course, there are universally recognized hits like “The Shining” or “Carrie”, but some films have been criticized by many for not fully revealing the essence, poorly written characters or unclear plots.
And the solution was on the surface: it was simply necessary not to make a movie, but a miniseries. We’ve rounded up 10 Stephen King movies that can definitely be saved by an alternative format – and maybe someday they will be.

Stephen King’s works are a real treasure trove for filmmakers, and his books are happily adapted into both movies and TV series. Some works did not suffer from the full-length film format and were immediately turned into a series: for example, “11.22.63”, “The Stranger”, “Castle Rock”, “Under the Dome” and many others.
With “11.22.63” the decision was more than successful – after all, the original is over 850 pages long, and a film based on such a work would certainly have turned out crumpled and unclear. But JJ Abrams’ miniseries hit the audience with a bang: on Kinopoisk it got a rating of 7.9 (and even made it into the top 250), and on IMDb it got a rating of 8.2.
Given the modern industry’s love of remakes and adaptations, it would be odd not to pay tribute to at least a few of the ten King works we’ve listed. Which miniseries would you most like to see?
