“Types of Kindness” is now available to watch online, but the film’s reviews leave a lot to be desired

After the incredible success of the film ‘The Unfortunate Poor’, Yorgos Lanthimos was immediately included in the cohort of directors who simply cannot make a bad film.

Much was expected of his new film ‘Types of Kindness’. The director decided to abandon the usual approach to the script and made his film an anthology of three intersecting stories. The leading roles in the film were played by Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley – what could go wrong here?

It turned out that almost everything.

‘Types of Kindness’ is already available to watch online, but has not yet received the universal acclaim of ‘The Poor and Unfortunate’.

Some viewers praise Lanthimos for rejecting Hollywood platitudes. The director was truly able to make a unique film with big stars, and he did it in his own recognizable style.

“Lanthimos managed to leave the mainstream without any extra effort and regain his reputation as one of the most controversial and therefore talked about directors of our time,” – one fan noted.

Other viewers criticized ‘Types of Kindness’ for the director’s very authoritarian approach. Fans of “The Poor Miserables” did not recognize Lanthimos in this film and called the film deliberately sensational and even vulgar.

“Is the director of this boring art house really the same Yorgos Lanthimos who directed The Poor Miserables? There was a clear image, memorable characters, sarcasm in every sentence and a clear authorial subtext. What is there in kinds of kindness? Dejection, dullness, ineffability, melancholy, confusion of the main idea, spiced with nonsense, ‘ – a fan complained.

At this moment “Kindness” has only received 6.8 points about “Kinopoisk” – an embarrassing point for Lanthimos, whose “The Poor and Unfortunate” won as much 7.7 points only a year ago.
