Brilliant idea.
In late July, Kevin Feige shocked all MCU fans and announced that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the main villain of the upcoming Avengers, Doctor Doom.
Downey, best known for his role as Tony Stark in the MCU, agreed to return to the comic book films as Victor von Doom for a huge sum of money. But many fans began to wonder how Feige would explain an actor best known for playing a hero, taking on a supervillain?
The MCU creative director is keeping his cards close to his chest for now. But fans have already come up with a theory that realistically explains how Tony Stark could become Doctor Doom.

The fact is that in Marvel comics, Howard Stark is not Tony’s father. In 2012, comic book writer Gerry Duggan shocked readers with a plot twist by revealing that Howard and Maria had adopted Tony.
According to a fan theory, in the MCU multiverse, one version of Tony will discover that he was born under the name Victor von Doom and decide to become the ruler of Latveria.
If this theory is true, Feige could combine two personalities in the new villain: Tony Stark and Doctor Doom. This will certainly make the plot of the new “Avengers” much more exciting and complex, as superheroes will not have to fight just any supervillain, but a version of their former brother in arms.
Avengers: Judgment Day will be released worldwide on May 1, 2026.
